It is always super cute to see dogs tilt their head when we speak or when they hear something. So much so that we often grab our camera to snap a photo. But there are actually a couple of reasons why this is happening.
The structure of a dog’s ear allows them to cup their ear canal so that they can hear exactly where a sound is coming from. When they tilt their head, they are probably doing so to concentrate and decipher exactly where the sound is originating.
Dogs also tilt their heads to determine exactly what we are saying. Dogs can’t understand everything that we say to them, but when words are often repeated –like walk, park, car ride, dinner- they will recognize them. So they tilt their head to hear better and be able to pick up words that are important to them.
